In-Depth Mining Guide for World of Warcraft

In-Depth Mining Guide for World of Warcraft

Introduction

This Mining guide doesn’t show you the fastest way to level your Mining profession from 1-800–those guides are all over on the web!–but instead reveals the best zones for each ore, the gold I’ve made from those ores, and the links to my freebie pages. These pages may also reveal more gold screenshots for other materials.

This guide is updated for patch 7.3.

Where do I get Mining?

Before you get started with this profession, you’ll be needing the profession. So here’s a list of the different trainers you can find throughout the world. The links will take you to WoWHead pages.

Continent: Eastern Kingdoms

Continent: Kalimdor

Continent: Northrend

Continent: Outland

Continent: Pandaria

Continent: The Broken Isles

What other professions should I get?

You can get any profession you want, but the four that go great with this profession are either AlchemyBlacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, or Engineering.

Should I be a specific class?

  • Druids will help you pop in and out of flight form fast when mining out in the open world.
  • Highmountain Taurens will provide you with a racial bonus to mining speed.
  • Demon Hunters are nice for indoor use, regarding their speed at getting around.

Apart from those, don’t need to be any specific class for this, aside from maybe a class that’s benefited by one of the professions that go with Mining.

How do I find ore?

Got your Mining profession? Great! On your minimap, there’s an icon you can click that’ll extend a dropdown menu. Find and check ‘Find Minerals’ and you’re good to go!

Any addons I should get?

highly recommend Gathermate2 and Gathermate2_Data. They’re two of the same addons that coexist with one another in order to show you all the locations of the different ore of the world. I also use both FarmHUD and Routes.

  • Gold section needs added (Patreon supporters only)
    • Screenshots of average gold sold for.
    • Information on what the mat is good for.
      • If it’s best to buy the lower price and sell higher.
  • Links to ‘ore’ and ‘stone’ posts need created and added.
  • Still need flying for WoD and Legion zones (lol)
  • Battle pets from mining.
  • Mining leveling guide.
  • Mobs you can mine.
  • Acknowledgment section for those who have helped.

Once this page reaches 250 shares I’ll be giving away a battle pet/mount to a randomly chosen winner from the Blizzard online store.

1-800 Mining Leveling Guide

First off, if you’re already level 100, then you can mine in the Legion zones, starting fresh. But if you’re a lower level and want to start with the basics, either for goldmaking or profession purposes, then I’m hoping this guide will help you out in that department.

Now, these farming locations aren’t set in stone. You can always go to alternative zones if you want, but I tried to fit the closest zones to one another in the guide below. If a route’s not adequate, you can always smelt the ore you get into bars to up your mining profession further.

Keep in mind, I don’t have flying in Draenor or Legion yet, so I won’t have adequate information in those areas.

Mining for: Copper Ore

Alliance

Your best bet is to follow the route around Darkshore. This place will net you the most Copper Ore you’ll ever need in a single route alone. (That may be a bit of stretch.) Another reason this place is good is due to it being close to the next zone you’ll be wanting to travel to.

Horde

Durotar holds a somewhat tight competition with the Alliance’s zone, but doesn’t quite make it to the top. That’s okay though, you’ll still be finding plenty of ore in this area. Like with Darkshore, this zone is beside the next place that’s a perfect farm.

Mining for: Tin Ore & Silver Ore

Alliance & Horde

Here’s the start to both Alliance and Horde sharing the same zones when it comes to mining. Because Ashenvale is abundant in Tin Ore, it’s your best choice, due to the zone being so close to the last farming location. Now, I didn’t get any Silver Ore when I mined this route, but that’s all chance–you might get some.

Mining for: Iron Ore & Gold Ore

Alliance & Horde

Desolace is the closest zone after you’re done with Ashenvale, but Feralas offers a lot more and it’s one zone further. I’m going to recommend Feralas in this section, but go to whichever one you like.

Mining for: Mithril Ore & Truesilver Ore

Alliance & Horde

Time to hop on your mount and fly back up to Felwood this time, where you’ll find one of the most simplistic farming routes a zone can offer. Felwood actually net me the least amount of Truesilver Ore, but the best zone for that ore gives more Thorium than Mithril.

Mining for: Thorium Ore & Truesilver Ore

Alliance & Horde

Here we have the big-time zone with a ton of Thorium Ore nodes all throughout the map that you can mine. Even better is it’s next to Felwood, if you chose that zone to farm in. At first, I had this zone split into two routes–one top, one bottom–but combined them because competition isn’t as fierce as it used to be.

Mining for: Fel Iron Ore

Alliance & Horde

Get ready to enjoy Hellfire Peninsula’s landscape, because that’s where you’re headed for Fel Iron Ore, although the alternative would be Terokkar Forest, which gives both Adamantite and Fel Iron. But for right now, we’re sticking with Hellfire Peninsula.

Mining for: Adamantite Ore & Fel Iron Ore & Khorium Ore

Alliance & Horde

Nagrand is your best bet for Adamantite, but like I said before, Terokkar Forest offers both of those ores–and even better, Khorium Ore. So we’re going to stick with the Terokkar route here.

Mining for: Cobalt Ore

Alliance & Horde

Cobalt Ore isn’t too overly abundant in a lot of zones, kind of like Fel Iron isn’t, but Howling Fjord was the best one to farm with the numbers it gave me. Cobalt Ore, fyi, normally tends to go for quite a lot on the auction house, so take your time with this one, if that’s the case.

Mining for: Saronite Ore & Titanium Ore

Alliance & Horde

I’m really torn on the choice with this one, because while Wintergrasp is the best place for both of these ores, it can be a competitive PvP zone, and you’ll have to wait for the battle to not be going on. Sholazar Basin is the next best choice, but it may also have a lot of competition. I’ll have to send you guys to the Basin for this one, but grab the chance to mine in Wintergrasp when you can.

Mining for: Obsidium Ore

Alliance & Horde

I hope you like swimming, because I’m sending you to the Shimmering Expanse to gather the most amount of Obsidium Ore. If you’re using the addon Routes, you can’t make a route in this zone. But it’s a simple one to remember.

No map as of yet.

Mining for: Elementium Ore & Pyrite Ore

Alliance & Horde

I know a lot of guides point you to Twilight Highlands for these ore, but I didn’t find that zone to be nearly as good as Uldum. In fact, Uldum has twice the amount of ores that I gathered from the Twilight Highlands so…yeah.

Mining for: Ghost Iron Ore & Trillium Ore

Alliance & Horde

Vale of Eternal Blossoms gave me the most out of both of these ores (technically Trillium is two different ores, but you get my point). It’s more than likely going to be farmed by multiple other people, though, if they’re on the hunt for the same kind of ore.

As a side note, Kyparite isn’t mentioned as a “mining for”, because the zone in question doesn’t have any. If you’re searching for Kyparite, your best bet would be Dread Wastes.

Mining for: Blackrock Ore & True Iron Ore

Alliance & Horde

I don’t even know because I don’t have flying. Sigh.

No map as of yet.

Mining for: Leystone & Felslate

Alliance & Horde

Nope, no flying in this zone either.

No map as of yet.

Ore & Stone Locations

As you read this section, you’ll find the links to various ores and stones you can acquire via the Mining profession. The links will take you to the freebie pages that tell you about the mats in question.

This section is to keep everything in front of you, so you can find what you’re looking for and the information you need. Such as the best place for an item without an overload of information.
